In a statement, Hamas said that its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, had told Qatar and Egypt, who were acting as mediators, that “Hamas’s approval of their proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement” had been given.
A senior Hamas official said Israel should now conclude whether it acknowledges or “impedes” a détente in the Palestinian region following seven months of war.
